The applications of tantalum are diverse and tantalizing. They include
- medical implants
- surgical instruments
- vacuum furnaces
- chemical process equipment
- nuclear reactors
- aircraft
- missiles
- electrolytic capacitors
- filaments for evaporating metals such as aluminium
The presentation will cover the relationships between these applications and the unique properties of the element, encompassing aspects of powder metallurgy, electrochemistry and manufacturing control. It will describe how analytical techniques have been used to determine and improve the quality of tantalum based products.
